A trip to Vegas opens up many opportunities to take excursions to the Grand Canyon and surrounding sites. One of the best trips to take is a helicopter tour out of Vegas.
On my last trip my friends and I went on a helicopter tour to the Grand Canyon with Sundance Helicopters. We were collected from our hotel in a limo to McCarran International Airport. The flight took around 3 hours and included a landing and champagne lunch in the Grand Canyon. We were then flown back over the Vegas Strip and returned to our hotel by limo.
Here’s the first video of a series I took, showing our takeoff from McCarran:
This was my first trip in a helicopter and I didn’t think much of it while I was filming. As soon as I took the camera away I suddenly had a fit of butterflies, wondering how we could be traveling so slowly yet staying in the air! Once I got over that initial shock the rest of the trip was a breeze.
Throughout the flight you have to wear headsets because the helicopter is so noisy. They play a commentary throughout with speech broken-up by relevant music. The tour began with the Austin Powers theme, followed by the Top Gun theme, and then Sheryl Crow’s Leaving Las Vegas.
Las Vegas Holidays Tip:
You might think it would be cheaper to book your tour directly with the helicopter company, but actually this is the expensive way to do it. We booked ours online for $300 per person, but my friend’s mum was quoted $450 each when she called Sundance directly. If you haven’t booked before traveling, check out some of the deals being offered in the casinos and on the Strip.
